Linear keypad and intercom repair in Ventura typically runs $145 to $390 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a keypad, an intercom module, or both. We stock Linear-compatible keypads and intercom parts on the truck for most common series, so same-day repair is realistic when the right part is on hand. Most owners call us after the keypad stops responding entirely, or the intercom audio gets so crackly their delivery driver just honks instead of buzzing. The failure is usually environmental: salt air along the coast, direct sun on a west-facing pedestal, or moisture inside a housing that was never sealed well in the first place.

Which Linear Models This Applies To
This page covers the Linear parts most commonly found on Ventura residential and light commercial gates: the AK-11 and AK-1 keypads, the AP-5, AM-KP, and AE-500 access control keypads, plus the older Megacode systems (MGT, MCS) and the entry-level AE-100 telephone entry intercoms. If your gate was installed between 2005 and 2018 anywhere in Ventura’s East End or Midtown, there’s a good chance it has one of these.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people don’t catch: a Linear keypad is not universally interchangeable across series. A Megacode keypad speaks a different protocol from an AP-5, even though they look nearly identical from the outside. Swapping a keypad from one series to another without matching the receiver usually means we have to add a small repeater or replace the receiver block too. Warden Gate Repair is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Linear, but that’s exactly why we pay attention to these details: we have to match the part to your exact series, not just guess from a photo. When we compare OEM versus aftermarket, for basic sealing gaskets and protective covers we’ll often use quality equivalents that cost less and last as long. For the keypad logic board and intercom voice board, we order OEM Linear parts. Those boards handle the encrypted entry codes and the radio handshake, and a mismatched aftermarket board is the most common reason a “repaired” keypad fails again in six months.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Linear Keypad or Intercom Is Failing
- The code works only part of the time. This is almost always a failing keypad membrane or a cracked trace on the board, not a receiver problem. In Ventura’s coastal moisture, the flexible keypad surface delaminates and lets salt-laden dampness onto the contacts.
- The intercom audio crackles or drops to one direction. A dying speaker or a corroded two-wire terminal block. Older Linear intercoms run the audio over the same pair as the trigger, so corrosion anywhere along that run wrecks the sound.
- The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending the code, but the receiver relay isn’t latching. On Megacode systems this usually means the keypad’s RF output has drifted or the receiver’s antenna connection has oxidized.
- The intercom rings the phone line but you can’t hear the visitor. The visitor microphone or the voice board has failed. On Linear AE-100 units this is the single most common failure after eight to ten years of coastal fog cycles.
- The keypad backlight glows but the buttons are dead. That’s the controller chip, not the membrane. The unit powers up, but the input matrix isn’t being read. Time for a replacement keypad rather than a service call that band-aids nothing.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what a Linear keypad or intercom repair actually costs in Ventura, written out plainly so you know before we touch a wire:
- Keypad-only replacement (AK-11, AK-1): $145 to $220 installed, including the new keypad, weather sealing, and programming of your existing code.
- Access control keypad (AP-5, AM-KP): $220 to $310 installed, including programming of up to 25 codes and re-coding the receiver if needed.
- Intercom module only (AE-100): $180 to $290 installed, including matching the new unit to your phone line or door release.
- Full keypad + intercom replacement on a shared pedestal: $340 to $390 installed, including new sealed housing, fresh wiring pigtails, and full system test.
The price is the price. Parts plus labor, written on the work order before the first screw comes out. No surprise line items at the end because the enclosure was “harder to open than expected.” Every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back free of charge and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things yourself. First, check the keypad’s mounting screws and the intercom’s faceplate gasket. If the unit feels loose or you see white residue (that’s corrosion, not someone’s spilled latte), tighten what’s loose and call us. Second, kill the gate’s breaker for 60 seconds and power it back up; occasionally a Linear board just needs a reset. What you shouldn’t do: open the intercom housing and start disconnecting the speaker leads. The intercom carries low voltage, but the gate operator enclosure next to it does not. The high-voltage capacitors inside a gate operator can retain a dangerous charge long after the breaker is off, which you don’t want to learn the hard way. Trained professional territory. If the keypad won’t wake up after a reset, call (831) 226-7089 and we’ll tell you over the phone what the likely fix costs.
FAQs
Plan on seven to ten years near the coast, and roughly twelve to fifteen years inland. The marine layer accelerates the two things that kill Linear parts: membrane delamination on keypads and corrosion on intercom terminal blocks. A West-facing pedestal on the Ventura Avenue corridor ages faster than one under a shaded carport in Midtown. Call us if your unit is past year eight and acting flaky; the fix is usually cheaper before full failure takes down a receiver too.
Sometimes. A cracked solder joint or a loose wire can be fixed in the field. A failed keypad membrane or an intercom voice board cannot be meaningfully repaired; the labor to revive it exceeds the cost of a new OEM part, which we refuse to bill you for. We’ll tell you which one you have within the first visit. Call (831) 226-7089 and describe the symptom, and we’ll give you the straight answer before we even book the truck.
Keypad replacement takes 35 to 50 minutes on site. Intercom replacement runs 60 to 90 minutes, longer if the phone line or door release needs rewiring. Same-day service is available in Ventura when the part is on our truck, which it usually is for AK-11, AK-1, and AE-100 series.
We carry AK-11 and AK-1 keypads, AP-5 and AM-KP access keypads, AE-100 intercom modules, sealing gaskets, and receiver blocks as regular truck stock. For less common series or commercial pedestals, we order OEM parts and typically have them in hand within two to three business days. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates, so if your system is a mix of brands we won’t make you wait for a second company.
