We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible access control parts across Ventura, with most installations running between $340 and $780 depending on your exact model and what failed. The typical access control board swap takes under two hours from the time we arrive, assuming the failure is isolated to the control module itself. Most Ventura owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate stops responding to remotes, keypad codes stop working, or the gate opens once and then refuses to close without a manual reset.

Access control installation is not a single part. It’s the small board, receiver module, and wiring connections that tell your Ghost Controls opener when it’s allowed to move. When that system degrades, the opener still has power and the motor still spins, but the brain has stopped listening. Up here in the Ventura hills, where morning fog rolls in off the Pacific and salt lingers in the air, we see corrosion on these low-voltage connections more often than outright board failure. Cole Rafferty has pulled apart Ghost Controls panels along the Pier corridor where green oxidation on a terminal was the entire problem.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls builds residential swing and slide gate openers, and the access control architecture is shared across most of their lineup. If your unit has a separate control board mounted inside a gray or black plastic enclosure near the motor, you are working with the system this page covers. The key identifier is the board revision number printed on a white sticker, usually starting with “AX” followed by digits. Ghost Controls has revised their control boards several times over the years, and the revision matters: an AXDP series board will not plug directly into a first-generation wiring harness without an adapter, even though both say Ghost Controls on the shell.
We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls. That matters here because we stock both genuine Ghost Controls OEM boards and quality aftermarket equivalents that fit the same enclosures. For older models that Ghost Controls has sunset, aftermarket boards are often the only practical solution, and we will tell you that plainly before you spend anything. The OEM boards run tighter tolerances on voltage regulation, which extends motor life. On newer units under warranty, we always recommend the genuine part. Ventura’s coastal humidity makes the sealed aftermarket boards a reasonable option for older gates without good weather protection.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Remotes worked yesterday, dead today. The receiver module on the access control board has stopped decoding signals. Sometimes this is a burned capacitor on the board; sometimes it’s a programming loss that a memory reset fixes.
- Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This points to a relay failure on the board. The board recognizes the code, sends the signal, and a worn relay contact eats it before the motor ever sees voltage.
- Gate opens but won’t reverse or close without a hard reset. The obstruction sensor circuit on the access control board is misreading input. In Ventura, we often find spider webs or moisture inside the sensor terminals creating a false obstruction signal.
- Intermittent behavior that comes and goes with the weather. Cold mornings and damp air expand and contract solder joints. A board with micro-fractures will work at noon and fail at 6 AM, which is exactly when Ventura homeowners need the gate to open.
- Burning smell near the control enclosure without visible flames. A MOSFET or voltage regulator has shorted. Shut the breaker off at the panel and leave it off until someone who knows the system can look. This is not a wait-and-see situation.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, expect to pay between $340 and $780 installed for a Ghost Controls access control board replacement. The spread comes down to three things: whether you have an OEM or aftermarket board, the age of your wiring harness, and whether we need to replace corroded terminal connections at the same time. A straightforward board swap on a newer unit with clean connectors lands at the lower end. An older unit needing a harness adapter, new crimped terminals, and cleanup of a salt-corroded enclosure lands at the top.
Every quote is written before any work starts. You will not get a surprise line item for a connector we found halfway through. The labor includes removing the old board, installing the new one, reterminating the low-voltage connections, reprogramming your remotes and keypad to the new board, and testing the full open and close cycle under load. Every installation carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the repair is not right, the return visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
The access control board is one of the few Ghost Controls components where an owner can safely check several things before calling. Look for visible corrosion on the terminal strip, confirm the breaker is on, and check that the antenna wire is not pinched or severed. These are eye-level inspections, not repairs. Where DIY goes wrong is jumping into the board itself. The control board carries live low-voltage current even when the gate motor is unplugged, and a shorted capacitor can hold a charge long after power is cut. If you are not comfortable with a multimeter and electrical schematics, let someone who is handle it.

Tell me exactly what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it. Call us at (831) 226-7089 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight answer on the phone, then send a named technician with a written price before anything gets touched.
FAQs
In Ventura’s coastal climate, a Ghost Controls access control board typically lasts 8 to 12 years before the combination of salt air and thermal cycling degrades the solder joints or the relays. Units mounted in sealed enclosures with proper weather gaskets can push past that. Units mounted in direct sun on a south-facing wall tend to fail a few years sooner.
If yours is approaching the decade mark and acting up, call (831) 226-7089 for a board inspection before it strands you outside the gate.
Sometimes, but we will not promise a board repair until we have it open on the bench. A single burned relay or a lifted solder joint is repairable. A board with multiple failed components or water damage across the trace lines is a replacement job. We will show you what we found and give you the repair price and the replacement price side by side before you decide.
Most Ghost Controls access control board installations in Ventura take between 90 minutes and two hours on site, including reprogramming remotes and keypads. If wiring cleanup or harness replacement is required, add another 30 to 45 minutes. We schedule the visit so you know the window before we arrive.
Our Ventura service vehicles carry a working inventory of Ghost Controls access control boards, receiver modules, and replacement terminals for the most common model lines. If your unit needs a revision we do not have on the truck, we can typically source it within two business days through our parts accounts. We also stock compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing systems, so a mixed-brand setup is not a problem.
Call (831) 226-7089 and tell us your board revision number. We will confirm stock before you book the visit.
