We stock and install FAAC-compatible replacement gate motors throughout Ventura, with most swaps priced between $850 and $1,600 installed depending on your model, gate weight, and whether we’re replacing the motor alone or the full operator assembly. We typically complete the job in one visit, and we always hand you a written price before any work begins. Most Ventura homeowners discover the motor has failed when the gate opens halfway, hums without moving, or simply won’t respond at all, usually in the morning when the gate has been sitting cold overnight or after a stretch of heavy coastal fog.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To
FAAC builds a broad lineup of gate operators across several series, and the replacement path depends heavily on which one you own. We regularly replace motors for the FAAC 390, 400, 412, 415, 422, 455D, 740, 750, 770, 844, 844ER, and the S418 and S450 sliding models. If you have a FAAC swing gate, the motor usually lives inside the operator housing on a metal arm that attaches to the gate leaf. Sliding gate models mount the motor on a base plate beside the track. The quickest way to identify your exact motor isn’t the model number on the cover, it’s the label on the motor body itself or on the control board. We walk every customer through a 60-second phone identification before we dispatch, so the right replacement part is on the truck when we arrive in Ventura.
When it comes to parts, we’re an independent service provider, not a FAAC dealer. That means we carry both OEM FAAC replacement motors and quality aftermarket equivalents from names like BFT or Mighty Mule where they fit. For newer FAAC units still under warranty, we’ll always recommend the OEM part. For older models where the OEM motor is backordered or discontinued, a properly spec’d aftermarket motor often gets the gate running years longer than waiting on a part that may never ship.

Signs Your FAAC Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing
- Humming without movement. The motor runs but the gate doesn’t move. This usually means a failed capacitor or worn gears inside the operator, both common on FAAC units that are more than eight years old in coastal Ventura air.
- Gate moves slowly or stalls mid-travel. The motor is losing torque. On FAAC swing gate arms, this often points to seal failure letting salt air into the gearbox, which is a slow death sentence for the internals.
- Gate opens but won’t close, or closes but won’t open. This is usually a limit switch or control board issue, but on FAAC units it can also mean the motor’s thermal overload is tripping because the wind load on a Ventura hillside property is more than the motor was sized for.
- Burning smell or visible scorch marks on the housing. The motor is overheating. This is the point where continued use risks the control board too, so we recommend cutting power immediately and calling us.
- Gate reverses for no reason. On FAAC hydraulic operators, this often means the motor is still running but the pump isn’t building pressure, which is a classic symptom of internal bypass valve wear, not a sensor problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, a complete FAAC gate motor replacement runs from $850 to $1,600 installed. Here’s how that range breaks down in real terms:
- Motor unit (OEM or aftermarket equivalent): $350 to $700 depending on the model and series.
- Labor for removal and installation: $250 to $400. Most FAAC swaps take one to three hours, but older gates with corroded mounts or seized bolts add time.
- New mounting hardware, wiring connectors, and weather sealing: $50 to $150.
- Control board or capacitor replacement (if the motor failure damaged them): $150 to $350 more, but we’ll tell you before we quote it, and nothing gets added without your written approval.
Every replacement includes a new motor, full installation, and our written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails within a year, we come back and make it right, and that return visit is free. No invoice surprises. The price we write down before work starts is the price you pay when we’re done.

DIY or Call Us?
A FAAC gate motor is not a high-tension spring, but it does involve line voltage, heavy gate leaves, and pinch points that can crush fingers or worse if the gate moves unexpectedly during a swap. We don’t recommend opening the operator housing unless you’re comfortable working with live electrical connections and you know how to lock the gate against movement before you start. What you can safely do is check the obvious: Is the breaker tripped? Are the safety edges clean and unobstructed? Is there visible corrosion or a burning smell? After that, the smart move in Ventura is to call (831) 226-7089 and let us diagnose it. Tell me exactly what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it. The estimate is free, and if we’re already on the way with the right part, the repair happens the same day.
FAQs
In our experience along the Ventura coast, an FAAC motor lasts 8 to 12 years with regular maintenance, but salt air exposure near the Pier, Marina Park, or the Keys can cut that to 6 or 7 years if the seals were never serviced. Motors installed with proper weatherproofing and annual gearbox checks usually make it a decade or more.
It depends on what failed. Capacitors and limit switches are cheap, simple repairs that we do all the time. If the motor windings are burnt or the gearbox has shredded, replacement is the real repair. A rebuilt motor on a FAAC 400 or 415 often costs within $150 of a new unit, which is why we usually point customers toward replacement.
Most FAAC motor swaps in Ventura are done in 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how much corrosion we have to deal with at the mounting points and whether the control board needs attention. We carry the common FAAC motors and capacitors on the truck, so if you call in the morning, there’s a good chance the gate is working again before dinner.
We stock FAAC-compatible motors for the 390, 400, 412, 455D, 740, and 844 series on our service trucks now. For less common models, we can typically source the motor within two to three business days. We also carry replacement parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, which sometimes fit FAAC gates that were retrofitted with a different operator at some point.
