Get your free estimateFAAC Access Control Installation: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
We stock, install, and program FAAC-compatible access control systems across Ventura, with most installations running between $950 and $2,400 depending on the hardware and wiring already in place. If your FAAC keypad, card reader, or telephone entry unit has stopped responding, or the gate won’t release when a code is entered, we can typically diagnose the issue the same day and have the replacement part installed within 48 hours. What usually happens: the reader powers on, the keypad beeps, but the gate won’t move – that’s the control board or relay failing, not the gate operator itself. The good news is the gate motor you already own is probably fine.

Cole Rafferty has replaced enough salt-corroded keypads along the Ventura Pier corridor to know that coastal hardware fails differently than inland. That experience means we can tell you over the phone whether it’s the keypad, the wiring, or the board – before we ever roll a truck.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
We work on FAAC 402, 412, 415, 422, 760, 770, E024U, C720, C721, and S418 series operators, plus the older 390 and 590 swing arm models still turning up in Ventura hillside homes. If you can find the model plate (usually mounted on the side of the operator housing, near the manual release keyhole), that tells us exactly which access control board and receiver your system needs.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha worth knowing: FAAC’s E024U board appears in both the 402 and 412 series, but the access control wiring harness changed between production years. A 2014 board does not plug into a 2019 housing without a new harness – we’ve seen DIY installers burn out perfectly good boards this way. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, we stock both. Genuine FAAC boards carry the full manufacturer warranty and match the exact pinouts on your existing system. Quality aftermarket equivalents like the older Viking photo eye retrofits or Linear-compatible receivers cost 30 to 40 percent less upfront and work reliably, but they may not support every FAAC diagnostic feature. For access control specifically – the part that decides who gets in and who doesn’t – we generally recommend OEM unless you’re on a strict budget.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with FAAC. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, but FAAC access control is a core part of what we fix every week in Ventura.

Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t open. The keypad itself is still sending a signal, but the relay on the control board has likely failed. This is the single most common FAAC access control failure we see in Ventura, especially on systems older than five years.
- Some codes work, others don’t. This usually points to a memory issue on the access control board or a corroded wiring connection, not the keypad. If moisture has worked its way into the housing – common in coastal neighborhoods like Pierpont or the Keys – the contacts degrade unevenly.
- Gate opens on its own or at random times. A failing receiver can pick up stray signals from nearby remotes or even some garage door openers. We’ve chased down a Ventura gate that was being triggered every morning by a neighbor’s car alarm.
- The intercom or call box works but sounds scratchy or cuts out. That’s the audio circuit failing, often due to salt air corrosion inside the call box housing. The gate may still operate, but the speaker will eventually die completely.
- You smell burning plastic near the operator. Shut the system off at the breaker and call us. A failing transformer on the access control board can overheat and take the whole system with it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, a complete FAAC access control installation – new keypad or card reader, control board if needed, and full programming – typically runs from $950 for a basic single-code keypad on an existing working board, up to $2,400 for a full system replacement with a new board, reader, and telephone entry unit.
| Service | Typical Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| FAAC keypad replacement (hardwired) | $350 – $650 |
| Access control board replacement (FAAC E024U or equivalent) | $500 – $900 |
| Full access control system (board, reader, programming) | $1,100 – $2,400 |
The range comes down to three things: whether your existing wiring is salvageable, whether you need a new board or just a peripheral, and how far the gate sits from the house where the telephone entry unit is mounted. You get a written price before any work starts – no surprise line items when it’s done. Every access control installation we do in Ventura carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right, we come back free and make it right. That’s in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check three things on your own: confirm the breaker hasn’t tripped, look for obvious physical damage to the keypad or reader housing, and try a known working code several times to rule out user error. Past that, access control wiring runs low-voltage but ties directly into your gate operator’s main board. One crossed wire or a mis-set dip switch can fry a $400 control board or leave your gate stuck open. We’ve also seen owners replace a keypad thinking it was the problem when the real issue was a corroded splice underground – a $90 part swapped for a $12 wire repair. If you’ve done your three checks and the gate still won’t respond, call us at (831) 226-7089. We’ll tell you over the phone what it likely is and what the visit costs before we show up.
FAQs
In Ventura’s coastal air, expect 5 to 8 years from the original keypad or reader before corrosion or component failure sets in. Inland units, like those in Ojai or east Ventura, often run 10 years or more. Salt air is the biggest lifespan killer for any exposed access control hardware.
Usually not. Keypads fail from internal corrosion or worn key contacts, neither of which is serviceable. We do, however, repair wiring, replace corroded connectors, and rebuild housings – often the actual fix when a keypad acts dead. That’s why we diagnose before quoting a replacement.
A standard keypad or card reader swap takes 45 minutes to 2 hours, including programming and testing. A full board and access control replacement is typically 2 to 4 hours. We’ll give you a time window before the visit and a call when the tech is on the way.
Yes. We carry FAAC-compatible keypads, E024U boards, receivers, and common wiring harnesses on the service vehicles. That’s how we can often finish the job in one visit in Ventura. For less common FAAC telephone entry parts, we source OEM units and typically have them in hand within 2 business days.
Tell me exactly what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it. Call (831) 226-7089 for a free estimate, and we’ll send you the name and photo of the technician before they arrive – so you know exactly who’s walking up to your gate.
