DoorKing welding and fabrication in Ventura typically runs $350 to $950 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked gate frame, rebuilding a hinge mount, or fabricating a custom bracket. We stock common DoorKing-compatible steel stock and fabrication hardware on our trucks, which means most weld repairs and reinforcements happen in one visit. Most Ventura owners find out the hard way: the gate starts sagging, dragging, or making a groan at the hinge that gets worse every week until the frame finally lets go.

Cole Rafferty has spent the better part of two decades repairing gates across Ventura County, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every customer: “Tell me exactly what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it.” That’s the whole approach here. We look at the weld, the metal around it, and the way the gate hangs before we quote a single dollar.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing’s slide and swing gate operators are built like tanks, but the gates they move are only as strong as the steel holding them together. We do welding and fabrication for the full DoorKing lineup, including the 9000, 9100, and 9150 series slide operators, the 6000 and 6100 series swing operators, and the DKS 1601/1602 barrier gates you’ll see at parking lots and HOAs around Ventura. The fabrication work covers the gate itself: hinge plates, frame reinforcements, post caps, operator mounting plates, and custom brackets that DoorKing doesn’t sell as standalone parts.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha most owners miss: DoorKing operator mounting plates are model-specific. A plate fabricated for a 9100 won’t line up with a 9150’s bolt pattern without modification, and welding the wrong plate in place means redrilling or cutting later. When we fabricate a mounting plate in Ventura, we verify the model and bolt center measurements before we cut steel. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with DoorKing, which means we’re free to tell you when a quality aftermarket bracket makes more sense than an OEM plate and when it doesn’t.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the hinge end. This is the most common failure in coastal Ventura. Salt air rusts the hinge welds from the inside out, and the gate drops half an inch or more. You’ll see it dragging on the pavement or scraping the post.
- A visible crack running from a weld joint. Cracks almost always start at the weld because that’s where the metal is stiffest. If you see a hairline crack near a hinge or operator bracket, it’s already spreading. Don’t wait.
- The gate shudders or bounces during operation. A broken internal frame weld lets the gate flex when the operator pushes it. The movement looks like a shimmy, and it puts extra strain on the DoorKing motor every cycle.
- Rust blooms around weld points. Ventura’s marine layer means unpainted or under-painted welds corrode fast. If you see rust streaks bleeding from a weld, water has already made it into the joint. The metal underneath is thinner than it looks.
- Hinges that creak even after lubrication. When the hinge plates themselves start pulling away from the post or gate frame, grease won’t help. The creak is the sound of metal flexing against a failing weld.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, expect to pay:
- Weld repair (cracked hinge, small bracket): $350 – $550
- Fabrication and install (custom mounting plate, frame reinforcement): $450 – $750
- Full hinge rebuild with new welded plates: $550 – $950
The range depends on how much steel needs replacing, how thick the material is, and whether we’re working on a slide gate or a swing gate. Swing gates put concentrated load on two or three hinge points, so failures there are usually more involved. Every quote is written down and agreed to before any work starts. No surprises at the end. The weld work itself is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails, the return visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can inspect your gate safely: look for visible cracks, rust blooms, and sag at the hinge end. You can take photos, measure the gap under the gate, and note where the worst wear is. What you shouldn’t do is fire up a welder on a gate that’s still hanging. Welding a cracked gate frame while it’s under tension is dangerous, and a bad weld on a 600-pound steel gate can fail without warning. The hinge side of a swing gate carries enormous load, and an improvised repair there is worse than none at all.
Welding also isn’t the whole job. A proper repair means grinding out the old weld, prepping the metal, welding, and then sealing and painting so the Ventura salt air doesn’t undo the work in six months. We handle all of it. Call (831) 226-7089 and we’ll give you a written price before any steel gets cut.
FAQs
A properly prepped, welded, and painted repair on a DoorKing gate in Ventura should last 10 to 15 years when the gate is maintained. The marine air here shortens that if the paint or sealant is skipped, which is why we’re particular about the finishing steps. Call (831) 226-7089 for an exact assessment of your gate.
Yes, almost always. If the steel around the crack is still sound and the rust hasn’t thinned the metal beyond repair, we can grind out the crack, weld it, and reinforce the area with a gusset plate. We’ll tell you honestly if the gate is too far gone, but that’s rare in our Ventura service area unless the gate has been rusting for years. Estimates are free.
Most cracked welds and bracket replacements are finished in a single visit, usually two to three hours including prep, welding, and paint. Larger fabrication jobs, like rebuilding hinge plates on both sides of a swing gate, may take a few days because primer and paint need cure time in coastal humidity. Call (831) 226-7089 and we’ll give you a realistic timeline after seeing the gate.
We keep common steel stock, hinge plate blanks, gusset plates, and operator mounting plates on our trucks for most DoorKing slide and swing models. If the job needs a heavier or thicker piece of steel than we carry, we have it cut locally in Ventura and typically have it the same day. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators, so if the weld repair turns up an operator issue too, we’re prepared in one visit.
