We stock Ghost Controls-compatible hinge and roller replacement parts on our trucks and install them across Ventura County, with most swaps running $180 to $420 installed depending on the gate’s weight and how much hardware has worn together. If you call before noon, we can usually have a technician at your gate the same day in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, and the surrounding neighborhoods. The way most owners find us is simple: the gate starts dragging on the ground, or it makes a metal-on-metal grinding sound that gets worse every week until one day it won’t close without a shove.

Hinges and rollers are the two parts of a Ghost Controls gate system that take the most physical abuse. Salt air off the Ventura coastline accelerates rust on uncoated hardware, and once a roller seizes, it stops rolling and starts scraping, which grinds a flat spot into the wheel and transfers all that drag to the opener arm and motor. The opener then works harder than it was ever designed to, and a $40 roller problem becomes a $600 motor problem. Cole Rafferty has seen this exact sequence more times than he can count on gates along the Pier corridor.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls has used a few different hinge and roller configurations across their product generations, and the compatibility gotcha is real: the AXDP and AXD series use a different hinge pin diameter than the current R series and TSS1/TDS1 kits. If you have the original manual, look for the model label on the opener housing itself, not the arm. If the label is sun-bleached or gone, measure the hinge pin: the older series uses a 1/2-inch pin, while most current production runs a 5/8-inch pin. That single measurement saves you from buying a hinge that looks right in the photo but won’t seat.
We carry OEM Ghost Controls hinges and rollers, plus a select line of aftermarket equivalents we’ve tested on Ventura gates for several years. For coastal homes within a mile of the ocean, we recommend upgraded stainless or zinc-coated aftermarket rollers over stock steel, because the stock rollers on some older Ghost Controls kits were powder-coated mild steel that pits within two or three winters in salt air. The aftermarket versions cost a few dollars more and last measurably longer out here. Warden Gate Repair Ventura is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Ghost Controls, but we install their parts daily and know which series numbers interchange.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes the ground at the latch end. This is almost always a worn hinge letting the gate sag, not a bent post. The hinge pin and sleeve wear into an oval shape over time, and the whole gate drops by a quarter to half an inch.
- A grinding or squealing sound when the gate moves. A seized roller doesn’t roll anymore, it slides. That sound is the flat spot on the wheel dragging across the track or the concrete, and every cycle makes the flat spot worse and the opener arm work harder.
- Visible rust staining or pitting on the hinge or roller hardware. Ventura’s marine layer means even “weather-resistant” hardware corrodes faster than the manufacturer’s inland estimates. Once the zinc or powder coating is breached, pitting spreads fast.
- The gate hesitates or stutters at one specific point in its travel. That’s a roller catching on a flat spot or a worn hinge binding at a specific angle. The opener’s force sensor feels the drag and pulses, which owners often mistake for a motor problem.
- Loose or sloppy movement when you push the gate by hand. Put the opener in manual release and push the gate gently. If it wobbles left-to-right or clunks at the hinge points, the hardware has play that new bushings and rollers will fix before it damages the gate frame.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical single-leaf Ghost Controls gate in Ventura, a hinge and roller replacement runs $180 to $420 installed. The low end covers two hinges and two rollers in clean, accessible condition with OEM-equivalent parts. The high end covers heavy or double gates, rusted hardware that needs cutting or grinding to remove, or upgraded stainless components for coastal exposure. Every job includes removal of the old hardware, inspection of the gate frame and mounting points, installation, lubrication, and a full cycle test under power.
Before we touch a single bolt, you get a written price with the parts and labor separated. That price does not change unless we find something genuinely broken while we’re in there, and if that happens, we stop and call you with a new number before doing anything else. No surprise line items at the end of the job. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, the return visit is free and we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely diagnose the problem yourself: put the opener in manual release, push the gate through its travel, and listen and feel for the grinding or slop described above. That’s useful information to have when you call. What we don’t recommend is replacing the hardware yourself, for two reasons. First, a gate leaf even as light as 150 pounds becomes an unpredictable load once a hinge is unbolted, and a gate that slips during a swap can cause serious injury. Second, if the new hinge or roller is even slightly misaligned, it torques the gate frame and transfers stress back into the opener arm, which is exactly the failure chain we’re trying to prevent.
Call (831) 226-7089 and tell us your exact symptom and Gate’s model number if you have it. We’ll give you a written price range before we schedule, send a technician whose name and photo you’ll receive before arrival, and have the gate swinging or sliding cleanly again, usually the same day.
FAQs
In Ventura’s coastal climate, stock steel hinges and rollers on a Ghost Controls gate typically last 4 to 7 years before needing replacement, with gates within a mile of the ocean on the shorter end of that range. Upgraded stainless or zinc-coated hardware can extend that to 8 to 12 years with regular cleaning and lubrication. Call (831) 226-7089 and we’ll inspect your hardware and give you an honest lifespan estimate for your specific exposure.
No. Once a hinge pin or roller bearing is worn, the metal surfaces are deformed and no amount of lubrication or tightening will restore the original fit. Replacement is the only repair that lasts. Call (831) 226-7089 for a written quote on the replacement parts for your model.
Most single-gate hinge and roller replacements take 45 to 90 minutes once the technician starts, including removal, installation, adjustment, and a full powered cycle test. Heavily corroded hardware or double gates can push that to two hours. We’ll give you the exact time window when we quote the job.
Yes. Our trucks carry common Ghost Controls hinge sizes, rollers, and opener parts, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing systems. If your gate needs something uncommon, we’ll order it and have the part in hand before we schedule the installation, so you’re never waiting on a half-finished gate. Call (831) 226-7089 to confirm we have your part on hand today.
